About the Location
When we first visited Chateau Cortils, we immediately sensed its unique charm. Within minutes we knew we wanted to invite you there.
The Chateau is located in the wild Wallonian countryside, and is closely situated between the historic cities of Maastricht, Liege and Aachen, places we discovered together in 2023. The area hosts a fine selection of cheese makers, wineries, an abbey brewery, communal fishing ponds and plenty of rolling countryside.
The castle was purchased two decades ago by a Dutch couple who’ve masterfully restored the buildings using period-appropriate construction methods and local, natural materials. The premise is a nexus of community, hosting various retreats as well as weaving weekends, where volunteers gather wool from the 100 sheep that graze around the castle grounds, and turn it into yarn and various knitted items which are sold in the castle shop.
The castle veranda looks onto a beautiful garden, a large pond and a small forest. We have booked all the castle facilities, with the families staying in the main castle and friends staying in various buildings on the castle grounds.
